What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?" by Langston Hughes.
From Setback To Comeback: Reclaiming Dreams While Living with Chronic Migraine@Ms. Irons Sharpens
When chronic migraine forced me to leave my thriving education career, I became one of the countless professionals affected by a condition that costs the U.S. workforce 113 million lost workdays annually. Sitting in my darkened office that final day, I couldn't see that this setback would become the setup for an extraordinary comeback.
The reality is stark: 85.7% of people with chronic migraine report reduced work productivity during attacks, with over half having to miss work entirely (Cephalalgia International Journal, 2022). As women, we're disproportionately affected, being three times more likely than men to experience migraine (WHO, 2023). But within these challenges lies an opportunity for transformation.
Through patient-centered care and unwavering resilience, I learned that dreams don't expire – they evolve. Like the 45.3% of chronic migraine warriors whose condition has influenced their career choices (Headache Journal, 2022), I didn't abandon my professional aspirations; I reimagined them. Each managed pain day became a stepping stone toward a new vision of success.

What's often overlooked is how chronic migraine affects our professional relationships, with 68% reporting significant impact on workplace connections (National Headache Foundation, 2023). Yet, through advocacy and understanding, we can transform these challenges into opportunities for deeper empathy and more effective leadership.
For fellow migraine warriors: Your dreams may be deferred, but they're not denied. Whether you're navigating career changes or seeking better healthcare solutions, remember that your story isn't over – it's evolving.
